Energy Code Support

In the fast-paced and rapidly changing design and construction environment, readily available technical information and agile training tools are essential.

Ready access to technical information and successful compliance with the energy code go hand-in-hand. We provide this information to the industry through multiple channels so that design and construction professionals can get the information they need, when they need it. This includes online resources, on-call technical support and in-person training.

Key personnel for our energy code support services are Lisa Rosenow, Director of Energy Code Services at ETC and our strategic partner Duane Lewellen of Lewellen Associates, LLC.

Our team has a strong and longstanding presence within the industry as a trusted source of energy code information. We are recognized for our leadership and dedication to support and advance building energy codes.

Our technical support team has depth of knowledge and experienced with all of the disciplines governed by the commercial energy code. We field questions from individuals across the industry spectrum including building owners and developers, architects, engineers, lighting designers, energy modelers, contractors, commissioning professionals, product representatives, utility program managers, energy conservation consultants and jurisdictions.

The need for energy code information is often time-sensitive, whether it be for an architect or engineer completing documentation for a permit submittal, to a field inspector verifying that code requirements have been met in a building under construction.

Our on-call technical support service is covered by industry experts who most often can answer your technical questions at the time of your inquiry. For tricky questions, we consult with our network of subject matter experts for their well-informed opinion. If the question warrants an official interpretation by the State Building Code Council, we can advise on this process.

We have a proven track record of developing effective educational materials that explain the intricacies of the commercial energy code using straight-forward, easy to understand language. Our team has personally delivered hundreds of trainings about building systems and the commercial requirements of the energy code to a diverse audience.

To comply with WA State COVID-19 guidelines, we deliver all of our energy code trainings via our webinar platform. We offer our online trainings as live events and as on-demand training modules that industry professionals can view at their convenience.

We can also offer customized training to meet the needs of your organization.

  • Hosting an educational event to support your industry association? We can develop training content on topics of interest for your members.
  • Need help educating your employees about the energy code? We can provide a personalized training session to serve the specific needs of your organization.
  • Need help promoting your vendor event? We offer presentations that provide value to your customers.

We enthusiastically embrace online platforms as a means to more effectively deliver technical support tools and resources. Online platforms offer a readily scalable and highly customizable format that can accommodate current and future program needs.

We administer and provide technical support for a web-based compliance documentation tool for the commercial WA State Energy Code (WSEC). This tool guides the user through the documentation process and provides energy code requirement information along the way. This level of technical support encourages more consistent compliance, which in turn has the potential to increase realized energy savings in commercial buildings.

Through years of experience providing technical assistance to a diverse cross-section of industry professionals, we are able to provide valuable insight that supports the efforts of code development stakeholders and promotes better code compliance.

Our energy code experts have an eagle eye for detail and are adept at developing enforceable code language. We recognize that code provisions are only effective if the requirements are unambiguous. In our code development work, we emphasize code language clarity and focus on identifying details where better language could improve compliance.

Members of our team have participated as voting members for the WA State Energy Code Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for the 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2021 WSEC.

Washington State Energy Code
Commercial Technical Support Website

We developed a new commercial WA State Energy Code (WSEC) compliance documentation website for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA). This new resource streamlines the process of determining which energy code requirements apply to a project and assists with verification that the project meets these requirements.
